Steve Gates – Managing Director

Steve joined the Denplan team as the Marketing Manager in 1995, bringing with him wide experience of marketing and research from within the healthcare and insurance industries. In 1999 Steve was made Director of Marketing and Strategy and in 2001, was appointed Managing Director.

 

As Denplan’s Managing Director, Steve is responsible for the overall strategic direction and growth of all its activities, in association with the Denplan Board and other senior management team members. He works particularly closely in areas of new product and business development, whilst maintaining hands on links with the dental profession, as well as harnessing the strengths and benefits of the relationship with Denplan’s parent companies PPP Healthcare Group and the Global AXA Group, to the advantage of Denplan’s members and their patients.

Dr Roger Matthews – Chief Dental Officer

Roger joined Denplan in 1995 having spent 20 years working in general dental practice, followed by employment as a dento-legal adviser for the Medical Defence Union and the gaining of a Masters degree in Healthcare Quality Assurance. He is responsible for coordinating dental advice to the Company and is involved in maintaining Denplan's outside links to other professional bodies such as the BDA, GDC and Faculty. Although a principal current activity is the ongoing professional management of the Excel Accreditation Programme, Roger is also responsible for the Professional Services department which provides professional training and clinical quality-related services, as well as complaints handling and risk management advice to dental members and patients.

 

His textbook on Risk Management in Dentistry was the first specialist text on this subject. Roger also lectures to Denplan member dentist groups and at other professional meetings.

Sandy Brown – Director of Marketing and Sales

Sandy joined Denplan in 1992. His first role for the company was a Denplan Care Consultant for Scotland, N Ireland and the North of England. As the business developed and expanded he was appointed Regional Manager for the same area.

 

Following various developments within the business Sandy relocated to Hampshire to take the position as Regional Manager South in 1998. Further development saw the introduction of the Area Manager team and his appointment to the position of National Sales Manager.

 

In 2000 Sandy was appointed to the position of Head of Denplan Care Sales which brought with it the added responsibility of being a member of the Senior Management Team. Sandy’s entire career at Denplan has been sales and customer service focused. In 2001 Sandy became the Director of Denplan Sales, and in 2005 he was appointed Director of Marketing and Sales, overseeing both divisions.

Julia Dawson - Director of Customer Services

Julia joined Denplan in 1990 running the Administration Department, having gained over 8 years commercial experience in administration and customer service management. In 1992 Julia moved to manage Denplan’s Client Support team, launching a regionalised service to practices and patients (now the Practice Support Advisor and Customer Advisor Teams).

 

During 1994 Julia transferred to the Professional Services area within Denplan, heading the Professional Development Department which launched and now administers the Denplan Practice Quality Programme.

 

In 1997 Julia became Head of Operational Development, before becoming head of Denplan’s Customer Service division in 1999. Now as Director of Customer Services Julia has overall responsibility for the Practice Support Teams, Customer Advisors, Registration and Administration Services, Insurance and Helpline and Corporate Customer Services. Working closely with the Sales teams, Julia is looking to improve the quality and scope of Denplan’s award winning customer service.

Dr Henry Clover – Dental Advisor

Henry is a former general dental practitioner who converted his own dental practice away from the NHS in 1993. Since then he has helped many dentists make the transition to private dentistry. With his experience as a Denplan member dentist, he joined Denplan’s Professional Services department on a part-time basis in 1998 and full-time in 1999, with responsibility for professional support and member services.

Pam Whelan – Corporate Dental Sales manager

Pam joined Denplan in 2000 as a corporate consultant having previously worked within the finance sector. Her role for the company was to promote Denplan’s dental cash plans as an employee benefit to companies. In January 2003 Pam moved roles and was responsible for the relationship of corporate bodies, in January 2005 she moved back to the corporate team as Corporate Sales Manager and now has responsibility for the internal and external corporate sales team.
