If you have recently received a letter about your Denplan fees and have any
questions, please use the links below to help you find the relevant information.
Frequently asked questions about your fees
Who sets my fees?
Your Denplan fees are set by your dentist based on the amount of time you
will spend with the practice over the coming year and the costs of likely
treatments. Dentists set their own fees these vary depending on the location of
the practice, its overheads and the condition of a patient's mouth.
How are my fees worked out?
Your monthly fee covers the time spent with your dentist and other members of
the practice team. You can view the
dental plans to
check what is and isn't included in the products. Every Denplan Care contract is
between you and your dentist. Check what's included in your plan with your
dentist.
Your fee may change from year to year, reasons for can be:
- Your dentist may have put you into a different fee category to reflect
an increase in treatment needs over the coming yea
- Inflation and the increasing costs of practice overheads and materials
However, if you feel that these factors do not explain a fee change, it is
best to discuss this with your dentist.
If my dentist sets my fees, what is Denplan's role?
Denplan collects your payments on a monthly basis and forwards them directly
to your dental practice, reducing paperwork and administration, leaving your
dentist and their team free to give you the best possible care.
Additionally, Denplan arranges your Supplementary Insurance cover and assists
with queries regarding your Supplementary Insurance policy. Denplan also
provides a 24-Hour Worldwide Dental Emergency Helpline.
Does claiming on my Supplementary Insurance affect my monthly fee?
No. Making a claim does not affect your monthly payments. However, if your
oral health changes as a result of a dental injury, it may have an impact on
your monthly fee.
If you need to spend more time with your dentist or your oral health has been
significantly affected, your dentist may re-categorise you which could have an
impact on your monthly payment.
Why might my fees change?
The amount you pay is dependent on your dentist's diagnosis of your oral
health and the amount of treatment you require. Your monthly fee should
accurately reflect the amount of time your dentist and the dental team spends
with you. If your oral health changes, this will be reflected in your monthly
fee.
Additionally, dentists with Denplan run their practices as independent
businesses, reviewing their fees in line with increased business costs. This
means that they can invest in the latest equipment and also in their staff. Many
dentists will be investing in their practice in order to comply with the new
Government cross infection guidelines.
What if I am at home and need emergency treatment outside normal practice
hours?
In the first instance you should call your practice and follow the
instructions, which should give you details on how to access dental emergency
care. This information may be provided by the practice themselves or by a
different dental service, acting as their emergency cover.
If you have problems retrieving this information, you can contact the Denplan
24-Hour Worldwide Dental Emergency Helpline. This helpline is also available for
you if you are away from home or you are abroad and would like advice on how to
deal with your dental emergency.
I'm moving to a new area – how do I change dentist?
Please view our step-by-step guide on what to do when
changing your
dentist.
I'm a Denplan patient – why can't I visit any Denplan dentist?
Your contract is with your registered Denplan dentist and we send your
payments directly to them. This means that it is that dentist who is being paid
to carry out your continuing care.
Why do I pay extra for specialist treatment?
Your dentist may decide to refer you to a specialist for certain treatments,
such as orthodontics or oral surgery. They can be very complex and a specialist
is more likely to have the expertise and equipment needed for your treatment.
If you are referred for specialist treatment, it would be chargeable as it is
not part of your regular treatments and appointments, which are included in your
Denplan monthly fees.
