During my time working in the Academy at Simplyhealth Professionals so much has changed in the ten years I have been here. When I joined there were only three team members and this quickly expanded to six. There are now ten of us from a wide variety of backgrounds ranging from practice managers, dental nurses, a midwife and the education sector, all contributing different skills and experience to our training programmes.
We have over 60 modules within the areas of Business Processes, Sales, Marketing, Customer Care, Communication, Team and Legislative subjects. We are constantly adding to the portfolio to meet practice requirements for recommended CPD and cover Legal and Ethical Issues, Complaints Handling, Mouth Cancer Awareness and Safeguarding levels 1&2. We have also helped many practices with their preparation for the CQC and HIW inspections in practice.
Lifestyle issues are also covered such as Stress Management with Mindfulness, Mental Health Awareness, and the Relationship between Lifestyle and Oral Health. The team are also in the process of creating new training modules to cover Infection Control due to many requests from practices.
In addition to our bespoke Tailor Made Training days we hold regular events for practice team members. One of our most popular is the Receptionist Event which is updated every year. We also support our Events team by delivering at our Practice Manager Forums, and this year we have been presenting at our CPD Essentials courses around the country alongside other speakers. These days are a great way for delegates to network, share experiences, and swap ideas with each other.
Webinars have been introduced over the past year to help those delegates who can’t get to as many face to face events as they would like but still want to keep up with all of our news and training.
All of the training we deliver whether in practice or at an event are a mix of presentation, activities and feedback from our delegates – no one wants to hear us going on all day! Our aim is to make all our sessions as fun and interactive as they can be. When we are preparing a Tailor Made Training day for a practice, we work with you and your local Simplyhealth Professionals Business Consultant to ensure that all the attendees achieve what they need from the day from both a personal and practice development perspective.
One of the things that I love the most about being part of the Academy is that no two days are ever the same. We may be delivering to a single practice, contributing to an event, writing or researching new course material, or preparing for a training day and putting materials together. It is also true that no two practices are ever the same even if they are part of the same group or corporate. They all have their own characters and issues and it is rewarding to help the teams address any challenges, celebrate their successes, and take their businesses forward. I am constantly learning from the practices I train and this allows me to bring different perspectives to other practice teams to help share ideas, minimise risks, and highlight best practice.
Variety is definitely the spice of life in the Academy for me and the rest of the team and by constantly reviewing and updating our portfolio there is always a wide range and up to date choice for our delegates.
