We understand that your role as Practice Manager involves a wide variety of skills and topics on a day-to-day basis.

This day is designed to support you, refreshing your knowledge and allowing you to network with your peers. You will receive our business and professional updates from the Simplyhealth Professionals Leadership Team. These sessions will be tailored to ensure that we are giving you all the legislation updates and changes as well as providing you with information how we can support you in your role within your practice.

There will also be then two addition masterclass lectures tailored to your role. Providing you with training and updating your knowledge, these interactive sessions will ensure you come away enthused about your job.

During the day you will be given plenty of opportunity to mix with your peers, opportunity to ask question and of course meet all the Simplyhealth Professionals Team.

As a team they have significant experience in marketing and sales across the industry.  They are the key people to provide you with the knowledge to not only sustain your patient numbers, but to grow your practice and provide valuable business support.

  • What is happening in the local dental market and factors affecting local practices

Biography - Sandy Brown
Sandy joined Denplan in 1992 as a Denplan Care Consultant for Scotland, N Ireland and the North of England. Sandy's entire career with us has been sales and customer service focused. In 2001 Sandy became the Director of Denplan Sales, and in 2005 he was appointed Director of Marketing and Sales, overseeing both divisions.

World of Dentistry - Catherine Rutland

Catherine Rutland, Head Dental Officer at Simplyhealth Professionals - Biography
As Head Dental Officer at Simplyhealth Professionals, Dr Catherine Rutland leads the team that provides assistance to member dentists; helping to support them with all aspects of running their practices successfully, with particular focus on providing advice and support during clinical disputes and times of professional risk. After qualifying as a dentist from Leeds University in 1992 and doing a year as a House Officer, Catherine worked as a Senior House Officer in Newcastle before settling into general dental practice. Catherine joined Denplan part-time in 2010 and was promoted to her current position in 2016.  She owned Broadway Lifesmiles Dental Practice in Thatcham for 19 years, and completed a Masters in Medical Ethics and Law from King’s College London in 2013. She is also a certified member of the Institute of Risk Management and recently completed a Level 7 Certificate in Leadership Mentoring and Coaching.


Lecture Content
The presentation will cover key developments and changes in legislation and regulation affecting dental practices, together with an overview of the NHS contract reform process. An update will be provided on professional support available to member dentists and their practice teams.

• To share insights into the current progress on NHS contract reform
• To update delegates on the professional support available to member dentists with any key developments highlighted.

How to Manage Challenging Situations and Difficult Staff - Jo Russell

Biography

Jo Russell - RDN Cert DPM Cert Ed LCGI MSET. Jo has over 30 years’ experience in the dental world & has acquired considerable expertise in all areas of the business. She has also further qualifications in Health & safety and safeguarding. Jo worked in the dental branch of the Royal Navy for 7 years and then appointed Area Manager for a dental corporate, looking after 16 practices in London and the south. Jo now owns her own consulting business and lectures & teaches nationally.


Aims and Objectives

  • To be able to confidently deal with situations using the skills discussed
  • Discuss how strong communication plays a part in conflict management
  • Use "witness, what, so? and how?" to devise a successful approach to difficult people and situations
  • Define the outcome you'd like and work towards achieving it

Biography
Jo has been working with dental practices for the last 25 years supporting them in their business goals through training and consultancy.  Now as the Head of The Academy Jo also directly manages a team of national trainers and inputs into the training and development strategy of the business.  With a wide range of experience working with dentists, managers and their teams she uses her experience and qualifications in business management and coaching to help practice’s realise their business goals and reach their full potential.  As a manager of a diverse team herself she recognises the importance of continuous development in her role and the wide range of challenges management can bring.

Lecture Content
We continually assess our team’s performance as managers and look to help develop and improve them as individuals and for the business.  How often do we assess our own performance and consider what could take us from good to great as managers and leaders?  This session will allow you to consider strengths and weaknesses in management style and leadership and also by sharing with others on the day discover ways to enhance what you do and develop in your role.


Aims
To examine the role of manager, what great management looks like and consider performance goals as individuals to further develop and improve within the role.


Objectives

  • Looking at what makes a great manager and the components for success in the role
  • How to evaluate your performance and progress from a personal and team perspective
  • Examine ways to develop in areas that can enhance both the role of the manager and the success of the business.
