Avoid a dental disaster this winter!
Last year, the Denplan Emergency Helpline received over 200 calls between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day. Although we’re always on hand to assist you in a dental emergency, we’d rather you didn’t experience dental pain over the holidays.
To help you avoid a dental disaster this winter, we’ve put together a quick guide to help you enjoy yourself during the festive period while keeping your teeth and gums healthy…
- Enjoy sweets and biscuits – but not too many!
There often appears to be an endless supply of sweets, biscuits and puddings during the holidays, and although these are tempting, they’re also the main causes of dental decay. Try to limit the amount you have, and eat them only at mealtimes.
- Indulge in a cheeseboard.
Swap a sugary dessert for a calcium-rich cheeseboard; this will help to balance the pH in your mouth, lessening the damaging effects of acid on your teeth and gums.
- Fill up on your favourite veggies.
Not everyone likes sprouts, but you’ll be pleased to hear that carrots, sweet potatoes and broccoli are also great sources of vitamin A, which helps to keep your teeth strong, as well as contributing to a healthy diet.
- Stick to your routine.
Although you’re likely to be staying up later and sleeping in during the holidays, there’s no reason to let your oral health care suffer. Stick to your regular routine, brushing twice a day for two minutes each time, and using floss or inter-dental brushes to clean between your teeth.
If you do experience dental pain during the holidays, don’t suffer in silence. Denplan patients can find out what action to take in a dental emergency here and can call our 24-Hour Emergency Helpline at any time from anywhere in the World.
