An enhanced Denplan Supplementary Insurance

Effective from 1st January 2026

wave-md

Great news, we’ve made some changes to the Denplan Supplementary Insurance.

Denplan Supplementary Insurance is changing from 1st January 2026 - but don’t worry, the price of the insurance stays the same and no action is needed. Changes will happen automatically.

Important: What’s changing?

The name of the product

We’ve changed the name from Denplan Supplementary Insurance to Denplan Dental Emergency and Injury Cover.

Claim limits on ALL your benefits have increased!

We’ve increased all your benefit limits to support you with the rising cost of dental care. We’ve kept the amount you pay for the Dental Emergency and Injury Cover at 60p per person, per month (before any eligible discounts) to ensure your policy continues to provide you with value for money.

There is no change to the claim process. If you need more information about how to claim, please check the policy document.

If you have Denplan Implant Upgrade Cover

If you’ve added Denplan Implant Upgrade Cover to your plan, we’ve also increased the benefit limit without changing the price you pay. This will remain at £2.25 per person, per month.

Changes to the Terms and Conditions

We’ve updated the Terms and Conditions and simplified the claiming rules for some key benefits, so your plan is easier to use and understand. We’ve summarised the main changes below. Please read these along with your policy documentation.

  • Mouth Cancer (Benefit F) Not only have we increased the amount you can claim for treatment to £12,500, but we’ve also added a one-off payment of £2,500 to the mouth cancer benefit. This is payable upon diagnosis of mouth cancer to help at this difficult time. You will not be eligible for this payment if you have been diagnosed or are awaiting a diagnosis before 1st January 2026.

  • Worldwide Dental Injury (Benefit B) We’ve increased the pre-authorisation limit for treatment from £200 to £500. If your permanent dental treatment is more than £500, you will need to get our approval before starting treatment.

  • We’ve renamed Benefit C to ‘Reopening a practice for Dental Emergencies or Dental Injuries’ so that it’s more aligned to the purpose of the benefit. We’ve removed the £20 excess fee (the amount that you pay towards each claim under this benefit), and we’ve clarified the terms explaining when we will pay this benefit. We’ve added a limit to the number of times this benefit can be claimed within one claiming year to 6 times.

  • Overseas Temporary Emergency Dental Treatment (Benefit E), we’ve removed the pre-authorisation for permanent and restorative work while overseas. Only temporary emergency treatment is claimable. Full details of what you need to provide when making a claim can be found in the policy document.

  • We’ve changed the name of the emergency helpline to ‘24-hour Emergency Assistance line’ and clarified how the service will support you.

  • We’ve added some new definitions to provide further clarity. Full details on these new definitions - clinically necessary, member, policy, UK territory and UK resident can be found in section 3 of the policy document.

  • It's in policyholders' and members' interests that we have strong anti-fraud measures in place, and so we've added a new section which explains what we'll do if we suspect or detect fraud. Full details can be found in section 10.

A reminder of what Denplan Dental Emergency and Injury cover includes

Denplan Dental Emergency and Injury Cover is provided by Simplyhealth Access. It provides help towards the costs of worldwide dental emergencies and dental injuries. The product offers six benefits. You also have the option to add Denplan Implant Upgrade Cover.

Benefit A – Emergency Dental Treatment in the UK

If you’re in severe pain and need to see a dentist urgently, your policy will help towards the costs of temporary dental treatment received in the UK if you are more than 40 miles from your dental practice. If you’re within 40 miles of your dental practice, you’ll need to contact them.

Benefit B – Worldwide Dental Injury

Accidents can happen when you least expect them. Not only can they be quite painful, but they can be expensive too. If you do happen to damage your teeth in an accident (where there has been a direct hit to the mouth), your policy will help towards the costs of returning your oral health to its pre-accident state.

Benefit C – Re-opening a practice for Dental Emergencies or Dental Injuries

If a dental practice must reopen the practice to help you with a dental emergency or dental injury, your policy will help towards the cost of the call-out fee.

Benefit D – Hospital Cash Benefit

There may come a time when you need to stay as an inpatient in a private or NHS hospital for dental treatment. This benefit can help you pay towards incidental costs such as telephone calls, travel costs or even hospital parking fees.

Benefit E – Overseas Temporary Emergency Dental Treatment

If you’re in severe pain and need to see a dentist urgently, your policy will help towards the costs of temporary dental treatment received anywhere in the world.

Benefit F – Mouth Cancer cover

We like to ensure that our members are covered for a wide range of eventualities. If you are diagnosed with mouth cancer by a specialist, you’ll receive help towards the cost of treatment charges, as well as a single one-off payment to help you at this difficult time.

Optional Upgrade - Denplan Implant Upgrade Cover, provided by Simplyhealth Access

If you damage your teeth in an accident and you need an implant to return your oral health to its pre-accident state, Implant Upgrade Cover will help towards the cost of clinically necessary implants.

All benefits are subject to individual or annual limits. For full details of the benefits, limitations and exclusions, please refer to the policy document.
