We're working with Dentaid

Dentaid has been solving oral health problems for vulnerable people for over 25 years. This makes them the perfect charity partner for Denplan. Our sponsorship will support increased access to dental care for those most in need around the UK.

Together we’ll take the dentist’s chair to people whose circumstances prevent them from getting there on their own. And because we know the importance of taking care of tiny mouths, we’ll support Dentaid in their vital role as educators. Through BrightBites’ lively lessons, our sponsorship will enable the creation of an early years oral health programme for pre-school children.

Volunteering opportunities

All Dentaid’s clinics are staffed by volunteers and they are always on the lookout for more people to support their work of providing emergency dental treatment for those in need. They are looking for dentists, dental nurses and non-dental assistants at their mobile dental units. Non-dental volunteers can help by taking patients’ medical histories and ensuring the smooth running of the clinics.

For the BrightBites programme volunteers visit nurseries and primary schools to deliver an interactive session that teaches children about the importance of looking after their teeth and receiving regular dental care.

More about Dentaid’s work in the UK:

Dentaid sponsored clinics

Dentaid’s two mobile dental units travel the country delivering free oral health care to the most vulnerable people in our society. Our investment means the charity can create and safeguard up to 25 mobile ‘Denplan Outreach Clinics’ for those experiencing homelessness, and other hard-to-reach communities across the UK.

Their clinics offer dental screening, toothbrushing and dietary advice, and a full range of day-to-day and emergency dental treatments at day centres, hostels and soup kitchens.

I know the huge difference Dentaid’s mobile clinics makes to the clients they treat; people who otherwise may not have the opportunity to see a dentist.

BrightBites

Through Dentaid’s BrightBites programme their volunteers visit schools to teach children - and their caregivers - about oral health and how important it is to regularly look after your mouth, teeth and gums.

Denplan is helping drive this important mission by jointly producing leaflets and resources for pre-school and early years children. The financial support will help target areas of high social need and fund visits and practical sessions for children and nursery staff.

I’m also pleased that Denplan is supporting the BrightBites early years oral health programme. As dentists, we’re very aware of the high levels of dental issues in children and know we shouldn’t underestimate the importance of teaching children about good oral health at the earliest opportunity.
