The UK’s first dental plan provider awarded B Corp status

This month we’re delighted to be celebrating B Corp month and reflecting on one of our proudest achievements of 2022 - becoming the UK’s first dental plan provider to become B Corp certified. Our B Corp certification recognises our commitment to sustainability, environmental and social responsibility. 

B Corp is a global non-profit movement with a mission to ‘make all business a force for good’. Their certification programme is a rigorous assessment in which a company must demonstrate a high social and environmental performance, make a legal commitment to be accountable to all stakeholders and exhibit transparency on aspects such as employee benefits, supply chains and charitable giving. In 2022, we completed our first online B Impact Assessment. The minimum score for B Corp certification is 80 and we’re proud to have scored 91.9.

As industry leaders, we recognise the importance of caring for dentists, practice staff, patients, and the world we live in. This independent certification from B Lab UK validates our commitment to all our stakeholders – that’s you, our Denplan members, your patients, your employees, communities, and the environment. Smiles all round.

Green dentistry: a practical guide

Throughout 2022 Denplan’s Head Dental Officer Louis Mackenzie shared a series of three articles on green dentistry. The articles focus on reducing our carbon footprint, protecting the environment and reducing waste without compromising patient safety and quality of care. As a B Corp business, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously and green dentistry forms part of a much broader programme of support and change we’re proud to be leading, with more to follow during 2023.

We’re not stopping there

We are extremley proud to be part of such a forward-thinking, caring, responsible and impact-orientated community. Undertaking the rigourous B Impact Assessment and collaborating with other B Corps has encouraged us to explore how we can further our own impact.

As we grow in our role as a B Corp ambassador, our goal is to use our heritage and experience to spread the word, share best practice and mentor others on their B Corp journey. On 30^th March we will be attending The Purpose Party at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The event will provide an opportunity for the Hampshire (and wider afield) community of businesses, public services, community groups, not for profit/voluntary and education sectors to connect and collaborate around 'purpose'. We’re looking forward to connecting with other local B Corps and showcasing our impacts to aspiring B Corps too.
